Port Royal Veterinary HospitalPharmacy

As the prescribing veterinarian for your pet's medications, we can ensure a direct link between the exam room and our pharmacy. This means your pet will receive the right medication, at the right dose, in the right form as quickly as possible. We will also guide you on the medication's use and monitor its effectiveness. You can feel confident all the medications we dispense were obtained from safe, reliable sources and stored under the right conditions.

We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet your pet's needs. We also carry a full line of prescription diets. If your pet requires a prescription diet we do not carry, we can easily order it for you.

Ensuring you have convenient, timely access to competitively priced medications is an important aspect of our veterinary practice. Refills are easy, too. Simply give us a call.

Microchipping

A lost pet is a frightening situation with often devastating consequences. Studies have shown more than 10 million pets get lost each year and approximately 90% of those found would not have been returned to their owners without some form of permanent lost pet identification.

This is why the team at Port Royal Veterinary Hospital considers microchipping a fundamental way to protect your pet and an important part of responsible pet ownership. We use the HomeAgain microchip system. Each microchip registers the animal with a unique identification number, which is filed in a database with your contact information. The contact information can be updated any time, and it is important to remember to do so whenever your information changes. If your pet is lost, the microchip can be scanned by animal control officers, at shelters, and at veterinary hospitals in the U.S. and in many foreign countries.

HomeAgain membership offers additional benefits such as proactive pet recovery and free access to ASPCA Poison Control. HomeAgain also comes with a number of services useful to pet owners, such as their National Pet Recovery Database, Lost Pet Specialists, Rapid Lost Pet Alerts, Lost Pet Medical Insurance, Travel Assistance for Found Pets, and more.

At Port Royal Veterinary Hospital, we've witnessed the value of microchips first-hand. When a local marine's cat snuck outside during a move, her owner feared the worst. However, the cat turned up three weeks later and was brought to our veterinary hospital. A microchip scan gave us her owner's contact information, and we set up a friend and family transport chain to reunite her with her owner (who had since moved to another state). Without a microchip, the cat and her owner may have never seen each other again. This safe, reliable, and permanent pet identification takes less than 10 seconds to implant and can save you and your pet days, weeks, or more of fear and anguish.

Health Certificates for Your Pet

We provide Interstate and International health certificates. We ask that you investigate your destination's requirements prior to your appointment. Many countries require rabies titer testing and microchipping. We are able to provide these services to you.

Because each destination country has different requirements for your pet's entry, you are responsible for supplying the list of requirements that need to be met for traveling with your pet; we can only accommodate the guidelines you provide. Port Royal Veterinary Hospital cannot assume responsibility for ensuring all the requirements are met for your particular situation and cannot be held responsible for quarantine, denial of entry, or costs incurred due to unfulfilled requirements for your pet.

House Calls

An important part of supporting the bond you have with your pet, as well as providing the best care possible, is by offering you the option of a house call. While Port Royal Veterinary Hospital has a safe, welcoming, state-of-the-art facility, we believe a number of our services can – and in some cases should – be provided in our clients' homes.

Our house-call service means you and your pet can remain at home, where you are most relaxed and comfortable, and receive a personal visit from one of our veterinarians. Services we can provide include wellness examinations, vaccinations, routine medical care, blood draws for lab testing, and other general services that do not require diagnostic or other medical technology. Emergency pickup is also available.

Certainly the most difficult, important house call we make is when a beloved pet is reaching the end of life. Being at home, surrounded by familiar and loving faces with a trained professional helping to ease a sick or aged pet from this world, is a vitally important aspect of veterinary care.

Port Royal Veterinary HospitalEnd Of Life Care

Euthanasia and tending to your pets' remains are two of the most difficult issues for many people to consider. Asking the question means confronting fear, guilt, and grief. Euthanasia methods are designed to cause minimal pain and distress. Talk to a veterinarian or staff member at Port Royal Veterinary Hospital about pet euthanasia long before it becomes an issue. Find out about your options, make some key decisions ahead of time, and ask us to add this information to your pet's record.

Taking the time to plan, as challenging as it may be, will lessen the pain and discomfort for you and your pet in the event this option ever has to be considered. Ask us about our crematory and burial services.

All of us at Port Royal Veterinary Hospital will do our best to help you prepare for these important issues with the compassion and sensitivity they require. At-home euthanasia is also available. Please contact us for more information.
